HISTORY

In 1959 a newly retired CN railroad engineer by the name of Max Balestant  and his wife Irene purchased 4 acres on Granite Hill Lake to begin the legacy of Remote Tourism.

Remoteness had some challenges with supply deliveries so all the cabins were built with local trees that were harvested on the land. Machinery and equipment was transported over the frozen lakes in the wintertime.

In those days, there was no generator and refrigeration was simply big blocks of ice cut , covered with sawdust and stored under the main cabin.

The main lodge and restaurant was built in the 1970's and remains today to be the place to share all the fishing stories.

John Smart visited Granite Hill Lodge in the early 1980's, fell in love with the place and decided to purchase the property as a retirement venture. His son, Paul Smart, then a teen-ager, worked for his dad every summer until now, along with his wife and kids.

We are continuously keeping the integrity of this special remote place for your enjoyment for years to come.

WE ARE A FLY IN RESORT

PK Resort is a fly in fishing resort. To get to the resort you will need to take a float plane from White River Air base. There is no way to drive into the camp!
